The Role Of Technology In The Transformation Of Educational System
Technology is the modern way of approaching things as opposed to how it was been done in the past(early ages) in order to manipulate the human environment. Education is the process of learning formally by following a laid down procedure called the curriculum, to acquire a certain certificate which serves as evidence of professionalism. In recent times, technology has helped to improve educational systems in diverse ways and this can not be overemphasized.
Modern technology boosts and increases productivity in the sense that it brings ease to anything that's done. The same thing applies to the education sector, it makes accessing materials easier and very fast via the use of the Internet as opposed to the olden days when the student had to move and travel as far as possible to get hold of the material(s).
In addition, it gives teachers the opportunity to connect with their students in a new way. It helps the teacher to explain things in a very simplified way, things that are not found in the textbooks can easily be looked up on the Internet and will be more detailed.
Furthermore, technology can help to boost student's confidence in the sense that they are very familiar with the devices that are meant to be used in the learning process. This can in turn increase student engagement and interaction in the learning process.
When classes are smaller, teachers always find it difficult to differentiate between the students based on their abilities. Now that the classes are bigger, computers help to differentiate among the students and will provide each student with various levels of instruction based on the student's capability.
Moreover, technology has enabled the increase of innovative teaching such as blended learning and flipped classrooms.
Blended learning is the act of combining traditional face-to-face instructions with online learning, which enables the facilitator to interact with them physically in the classroom and give them assignments that are meant to be submitted online. This will help to manage time and give room for flexibility and a personalized approach to education.
A flipped classroom is the inverted form of the traditional method of instruction, classes are delivered online and the explanations are being taught in the classroom physically, thereby giving room for enough time for practical interaction.
However, despite its various benefits, the introduction of technology into education has negative effects. One of its negative effects is the diversity in the students' backgrounds, some students have access to technology while some have little or no access. This will bring about the seclusion of students from the learning process.
Some students don't have the strength health-wise to be able to read with excessive screen time. It is also very important for teachers and parents to check and monitor their wards to balance their digital activities with their normal lives so that they do not overuse it
Finally, technology plays a major role in the improvement of education. The only thing that needs to be put in place is to balance technology with the traditional method that was used before to make education easier for learners.
